Chris Taylor

Global Head of Structured Products

Alpha Structured Products

Chris is Global Head of Structured Products for Alpha Structured Products, a new division of international asset management firm Alpha Real Capital, operating alongside TIME Investments. Chris is also the founder and Managing Director of The Investment Bridge, an independent consultancy firm, founded in 2011, which provides specialist structured product expertise, resources and services, to both the sell and buy side.

Prior to founding the specialist consultancy practice, Chris was Managing Director at Incapital Europe, the London-based affiliate of Incapital, a US-based investment banking firm, and from 2007 to 2010, was founder and Chief Executive of Blue Sky Asset Management, a multi-award winning boutique firm, specialising in research-backed structured investments for professional advisers. The business of Blue Sky was acquired by Incapital in 2010.

From 1996 to 2006, Chris evolved his career in the industry whilst with HSBC Asset Management, with his responsibilities covering long only active and passive funds, multi-manager and alternatives, with particular focus on structured products. Chris was HSBC.AM's Director of UK Structured Products Distribution, with multi-channel distribution responsibility.

Chris's financial services career dates back to 1987, initially as a private client adviser, and he has been actively involved with the structured investment industry since its earliest days in the UK. He was responsible for creating and delivering the most comprehensive educational programme ever undertaken by the UK structured product industry, in 2010, attended by nearly 1000 advisers, which was accredited by the Institute of Financial Planning, and is a well-known ‘go to' expert, with a prominent profile in both the trade and national press, regularly contributing to media to help raise the industry bar, promote the industry and advance best practice amongst advisers, investors and commentators.

Michelle Bates

Michelle Bates specialises in developing and distributing structured products to clients of UBS WM UK. She joined UBS in 2010. Prior to this Michelle worked for Barclays Wealth from 2000 as a Portfolio Manager and transferred to Structured Product Development in early 2006. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, holds the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment Diploma and is a Chartered Wealth Manager. Michelle is currently studying a Global MBA part-time at Durham University Business School.

Lorraine Zafrani

Lorraine joined AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) in May 2006 as Global Head of Structured Asset Management, managing asymmetric funds and solutions for all type of clients.

Prior to joining AXA IM, Lorraine spent almost 8 years at Sinopia Asset Management (HSBC Group), where she was managing structured products and volatility arbitrage products. Previously, she worked for one year at JP Morgan (Morgan Gestion).

Lorraine is a graduate of the Paris Pantheon Sorbonne University with a Magistère specialised in finance and a Masters specialised in Banking and Finance. She is also a CFA charterholder.

Mikael Axelsson



Mikael started his career as an analyst at Merrill Lynch Investment Banking in London. In 2004, he moved back to his native Sweden, heading up E*TRADE's push into structured products in the Nordic countries in co-operation with Merrill Lynch. In 2007, he founded and became CEO of Oak Capital, which by the time of his departure was a leading distributor of structured products in Sweden, Norway and Finland. Mikael joined Garantum in 2010 to oversee and expand the company's international operation. He was promoted to Deputy CEO in 2012 and took over as CEO in 2015. Mikael holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from the Stockholm School of Economics.

Nicholas Soerensen

Nicholas is a Vice President and Senior Product Manager at Deutsche Banks' Wealth Management unit in Luxembourg. He is a regular speaker at industry conferences across Europe regarding structured products, mutual funds and ETFs, and has been an active contributor to Incisive Medias' SP Europe conferences for 7 years. Before joining Deutsche Bank in Luxembourg, he gathered professional experience from working for Deutsche Bank, Deutsche Börse and the German Central Bank in Frankfurt, Luxembourg and New York. Nicholas has a Double-Master's degree in Finance and Strategic Management from studying in Copenhagen, Hong Kong, and Rotterdam.

Mark has a degree in economics and has spent the majority of his 24-year career dealing with all aspects of structured products. Until 2008 he was a managing director of structured products sales at Bear Stearns, with responsibility for distribution of structured products to UK and Irish clients. In 2008 he moved to Lloyds Bank, as a director of wealth solutions where he structured and developed structured products to Lloyds Offshore Private Bank and all of Lloyds structured products distributors outside the UK. He joined Mattioli Woods in March 2015. He holds the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) Certificate in Private Client Investment Advice & Management.

Tim Mortimer is Managing Director of Future Value Consultants, a research, product design and analytics consultancy specialising in structuring products. FVC provides structured product design, independent valuations, custom index calculations, analytics, model auditing and training services in the UK and elsewhere. FVC has provided the most widely used adviser research and rating service on structured products available in the UK since 1999 rating over 1000 products in that time. In September 2007 it launched its US structured product research and rating service. He has worked for 17 years in structured products, previously as a Quantitative Analyst at Paribas, UBS and Zurich Capital Markets before founding FVC in 1998. Tim has been providing regular commentary and product analysis for Structured Products magazine since the start of 2007.

Thomas Wulf

Thomas Wulf holds the office of Secretary General in EUSIPA, the European Structured Investment Products Association, since January 2012. As of 2014 he also is involved in the management of the Belgian sector association BELSIPA. Thomas changed to the association world from his previous position as senior manager in Linklaters LLP, a major global law firm, where until 2011 he was Head of Business Development for Western Europe. A lawyer by profession, Thomas started his career in the Brussels-based EU liaison office of Commerzbank AG where he worked from 2002-2005. He regularly lectures on regulatory issues relating to structured products at SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan.

Timothy Hailes

Tim Hailes is a Managing Director & Associate General Counsel in the Legal Department of the Investment Banking Division of JPMorgan Chase & Co. based in London.

Mr Hailes is co-head of the Global Equities & Global Regulatory Reform Practice Groups of the Corporate and Investment Bank Legal Department and the senior lawyer in the EMEA region for regulatory modernisation.

Prior to joining J.P. Morgan in 1999, Mr. Hailes spent six years in private practice, qualifying as a Solicitor (1995) with a leading City law firm and subsequently practicing with a leading Wall Street law firm in their London office during which he was seconded to the trading floors of clients Natwest Financial Products plc and Union Bank of Switzerland. He has spent his entire legal career specialising in derivatives and structured products.

Mr. Hailes has served on a number of derivatives industry committees (including co-chairing the ISDA fund derivatives committee) and is a regular contributor to publications particularly on developments in the equities markets and structured products sold to retail investors. He acted as a technical expert to the UK FSA 2009 Lehman review and has appeared in front of IOSCO standing committees, the European Commission, the Chinese Banking and Regulatory Commission and numerous other regulatory authorities on behalf of the industry. He is currently the Chairman of the Joint Association Committee (co-sponsored by ISDA, SIFMA, afme and the ICMA) on Retail Structured Products (the "JAC").

The JAC now brings together over 1,000 participants in global structured products markets including product structurers and providers, distributors and professional advisors to those groups (e.g. leading law firm practioners). It acts as a conduit for the sharing of information and market experience, the formulation of industry practice (e.g. the two sets of published Principles) and, where appropriate, the coordination of responses to regulatory initiatives (e.g. the work of the European Commission on packaged products or the recent HK SFC consultation on the review of the financial services regulatory framework).


Fredrik Bonthron

Before starting as Head of SPIS in 2017, Fredrik Bonthron worked with financial markets and institutions for five years at the Swedish central bank. He also has experience from working at the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority and the Swedish National Debt Office. Fredrik has experience from other parts of the financial system as well, e.g. working with corporate finance at Ernst & Young.

Casper Hoekstra works as a senior supervisor in AFM's Asset Management department, where he is responsible for the supervision of Dutch investment firms and UCITS management companies. He is also part of AFM's MiFID II implementation project team. Prior to joining the AFM in 2012, Casper worked in the field of structured products & securitization at IMC Asset Management and ABN AMRO. Casper holds a master's degree in Economics.

A former Capital Markets Front Office Business Manager with over 23 years of experience in Structured Products, Derivatives and Alternative Investments at leading global investment banks, Mark joined Delta Capita at the beginning of 2017 to lead the expansion of its specialist managed service business.

Mark has been at the centre of recent industry developments around PRIIPs and Product Governance working with a consortium of 7 major product manufacturers on KID implementation and recently running an industry wide survey of product governance manufacturers to assess their approach to MiFID II Product Governance.

Under Mark's leadership Delta Capita is supporting a number of major banks in their PRIIPs implementation projects and to update Product Governance frameworks to reflect MiFID II requirements.

A specialist in managing operationally complex businesses through organisational and business change, Mark has held senior business management and platform roles in London, New York and Zurich, implementing business strategy for growth and development, restructuring and integration, and addressing complex regulatory challenges.

Mark has specific experience of the design and implementation of global product governance policy and associated framework for a large global investment bank as well as managing multi-year Product Governance enhancement programmes. Mark has chaired Global and Regional Retail Product Governance Committees and was formerly a member of the Executive Committee of the UK Structured Products Association.

Walter Cegarra is a Managing Director in the International Trading Solutions department, part of Global Markets division of Credit Suisse, based in London. He is Global Head of Structuring of Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS) and Fund Linked Products (FLP). He also co-chairs the Global Markets Index Oversight Committee.

Mr. Cegarra joined Credit Suisse in June 2009 from Lehman Brothers where he was Co-Head of Structuring for Structured Asset Management, based in London. Prior to that position, he worked at Credit Agricole CIB (f.k.a. Credit Lyonnais) for nine years in New York and London, in different structuring and marketing roles across equities and fixed income, more recently as Head of Alternative Managers Structuring for Equity & Fund Derivatives.
